Odessan accused of shooting at man

An Odessa felon accused of illegally possessing a firearm was arrested again Wednesday after a local resident accused him of shooting at him.

An Odessa Police Department report detailed that residents on McKnight Drive called 911 around 5:30 p.m. March 17 about someone firing a weapon. When they arrived, a man said he saw two men parked outside his house in a Chevrolet Impala and the passenger “flashed” an “Uzi” at him when he asked them who they were. The man said he retrieved a knife from inside his house to defend himself and the passenger fired his gun directly at him.

A witness identified the passenger as a man named “Damien” and showed an officer his Facebook profile, the report said. The officer located a Damien Arturo Dominguez, 24, in the police department’s records and jailing system, confirmed it was the same man and put him in a photo lineup with other men.

According to the report, the McKnight Drive resident looked at the lineup and confirmed it was Dominguez who had fired at him.

Dominguez was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and later released on a $40,000 surety bond.

Ector County District Court online records indicate Dominguez was convicted in October 2020 of a drug offense and was indicted in January on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. He’s still awaiting trial in that case.
