An Odessa man who was placed on probation for 10 years in December in an assault case was arrested Thursday afternoon after being accused of violating the terms of his probation.
According to a Odessa Police Department report, an OPD lieutenant stopped a Dodge truck shortly before midnight April 12 for having defective running lamps and the passenger of the car tried to run away. A sergeant caught the man, later identified as Chaizel Vorsheon Milton, 23, and was able to handcuff him during a struggle.
Milton tried to reach for his waist after being handcuffed and the sergeant discovered a Smith & Wesson handgun in Milton’s waistband, the report stated.
The officers also discovered Milton was carrying more than 60 fake $100 bills that were glossy, plastic and read “replica money props,” the report said.
In addition, Milton gave the lieutenant a fictitious name and date of birth multiple times, according to the report.
Ector County District Court online records show Assistant Ector County District Attorney Carmen Villalobos had filed paperwork asking Judge John Shrode of the 358th District Court to issue a warrant for Milton on Wednesday alleging he’d committed forgery by possession, possessed a firearm, provided false identification and tried to evade and resist arrest.
In December, Milton was placed on probation after pleading guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Under the terms of his plea agreement, if he successfully completes his probation, the aggravated assault charge will be dismissed.
Villalobos’ motion indicates she has also asked Shrode to revoke Milton’s probation, find him guilty of the aggravated assault and send him to prison. He is being held without bond.
