Odessan accused of beer bottle attack

An Odessa man was arrested Wednesday on an aggravated assault charge nine days after he allegedly knocked another man unconscious with a beer bottle.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, a 33-year-old man told officers he was at a party on Melody Lane June 10 when he confronted another man who was assaulting a woman.

The man said he was knocked unconscious with a glass beer bottle and taken to Medical Center Hospital with a brain bleed, the report stated. He was later able to identify Lazaro Ceballo Campos, 24, as his assailant through social media.

Campos was booked into the Ector County jail on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison.

Campos remained in custody Thursday on a $60,000 surety bond and an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold.
