The Greater Odessa Rotary Club recently procured and painted blocks which will help Meals on Wheels of Odessa drivers and others locate clients at their residential addresses.
The brightly painted blocks with contrasting address numbers will make it easier for Meals on Wheels of Odessa drivers to locate clients’ residences.
Along with making it easier to locate the homes of their clients, the blocks will make it easier for Odessa Police Fire and Rescue to locate homes of seniors in distress.
“We were approached by the Greater Odessa Rotary Club to be the recipient of this project,” Craig Stoker, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of Odessa, said in a press release. “We serve the greater Odessa area, and even about 100 clients west of Loop 338. Not all are able to keep their house numbers updated and visible. These blocks will help our drivers find the correct clients, and as an added benefit, Odessa Police, Fire and Rescue will be able to use the same blocks to help identify homes should seniors be in distress.”
The Greater Odessa Rotary Club is excited to have the first part of the project completed, and according to club members, they look forward to being to provide more blocks in the future.

The blocks are scheduled to be delivered at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Mar 3, at Meals on Wheels of Odessa, 1314 E 5th St. Representatives from the City of Odessa and Odessa Fire and Rescue will be on hand to accept the donation as well.
Meals on Wheels of Odessa serves over 640 homebound seniors and disabled clients a nutritious meal five days a week and supplemental meals on the weekends. Operating since 1977, Meals on Wheels of Odessa is one of the oldest hunger relief agencies in the Permian Basin. Please visit mowo.org.
