Mother, son charged with assaulting each other

A 26-year-old man and his 44-year-old mother were arrested after police say they assaulted each other, including the mother putting out a lit cigarette on her son’s forehead.

Tanner Lynn Jennings, 26, and Nicole Jennings, 44, were each charged with assault by strangulation (family violence), a third-degree felony.

The reported assault happened at 9:29 p.m. March 2 in the 3600 block of N. Tom Green Avenue, an Odessa Police Department probable cause affidavit detailed.

When police arrived, Tanner Jennings told officers that he and his mother, Nicole Jennings, had gotten into an argument that turned physical when his mother pushed him, pressed a lit cigarette against his forehead and applied pressure to his neck with her hands, which caused him to be unable to breathe.

Officers saw Tanner Jennings to have visible redness on his neck consistent with pressure being applied, as well as black ash on his forehead, the affidavit stated.

Police also spoke with Nicole Jennings who told officers that she and her son had gotten into an argument that turned physical when her son pushed her against the wall while holding his hand on her neck and applying pressure, which caused her to be unable to breathe.

Tanner Jennings and Nicole Jennings were each arrested and booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on March 3, jail records show. Tanner Jennings and Nicole Jennings each have one bond totaling $15,000 and were still in custody as of Friday morning.
