A 42-year-old Midland woman was killed and a 67-year-old woman was injured Thursday evening in an East Highway 191 crash.
According to the Odessa Police Department, a Chevrolet Avalanche being driven by a 79-year-old man from Midland rear-ended a Mercedes around 6 p.m. while both were traveling east in the inside lane of Highway 191. Both vehicles left the roadway and struck the retaining barrier in the 12800 block.
Hortencia Almaras was pronounced dead at Medical Center Hospital.
The OPD originally reported Almaras’ passenger was 90 and was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. They later changed her name and age. However, MCH has no record of any patients being brought to the hospital under either name. It’s unknown if the 79-year-old man was injured, but MCH has no record of him, either.
The investigation continues.
