MIDLAND Midland College President Damon Kennedy has received the Paragon Award for New Presidents presented by the international honor society Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the International Honor Society for Community College students.
The award recognizes new college presidents for their outstanding support of student success and for providing high-quality learning environments inside and outside the classroom. Awardees are recognized for their active and direct interest in the leadership development of Phi Theta Kappa students, including providing them with more opportunities and vital pathways to degree completion and employment, a news release said.
“These college presidents have students-first leadership styles and made it a priority to support student success both inside and outside the classroom,” said Phi Theta Kappa President and CEO Lynn Tincher-Ladner. “This award is special because it comes directly from the students, and it is evidence of the gratitude they feel for the support for them and students like them.”
“Our chapter is very thankful for all of the support that Dr. Kennedy provides for our chapter.” states Terry L. Gilmour, Ph.D., Advisor & District 1 Coordinator of Phi Theta Kappa. “Even before he was selected as President of Midland College, he has always been an advocate for academic excellence and appreciates and recognizes the contributions to the Midland College community by students who are members of our Phi Theta Kappa chapter. We are thrilled that he is receiving this very prestigious award!”
Kennedy will be one of 24 college presidents to receive the award during the PKT Catalyst 2024, the Society’s annual convention in Orlando, Fla., in April.
