MC announces free dual credit for high school students in service area

MIDLAND Midland College has announced free dual credit courses for all high school students in the MC service area.

This initiative aims to provide greater access to transfer and career and technical education dual credit classes by removing financial barriers and creating educational and career opportunities. The offer is open to public, private, charter, and home school students and covers all fees for tuition, books and supplies.

Michael Dixon, Midland College Provost, acknowledged the significant concern students and their families have about the cost of college. This is especially true for dual credit courses when families may not have budgeted for college credit classes while students are in high school. By taking advantage of dual credit, students can graduate with college credits or even an associate degree before finishing high school. This helps them fast-track their path to a degree, ultimately saving time and significantly reducing the overall cost of their education.

Damon Kennedy, president of Midland College, highlighted that CTE dual credit courses provide opportunities to develop technical skills to secure a job right after high school. This aligns with the needs of employers in the Permian Basin.

Midland College is committed to offering educational programs that are not only relevant but also responsive to the needs of the community. We have a long history of collaborating with our surrounding school districts and community partners. We are all equally invested in the success of our students, and the coordination of programs like this exemplifies our commitment to the region, a news release said.
