MASTER GARDENERS: Fall Plant Sale set for September 14

By John Cappadonna,

Master Gardener Intern

and Debbie Roland,

Master Gardener

Did you know that Master Gardeners are having a Fall Plant Sale this year? Well, we are, and it is September 14. It will be at the same location as the plant sale held last spring which is 3011 N. County Road 1160 in Midland. This location was a big hit with everyone who came. It has easy access and parking, and we have volunteers to help you find plants and to carry out your purchases.

Our goal this year is to provide the right plants at the right time. That includes approximately 20 different varieties of native flowering plants such as Rock rose, Flame Acanthus, and Esperanza. These native plants are a great addition to any landscape but are especially desirable to anyone wishing to attract native butterflies and pollinators to your garden.

In addition, we will have a good selection of fall vegetables such as lettuce, kale, collards, Swiss chard, Broccoli and Bok Choy. These are all cold hardy vegetables and with a little care can be grown well into fall and even through the winter. We will also have a variety of culinary herbs on hand such as Italian Flat Leaf Parsley, sage, chives, cilantro and dill. All these herbs are very cold hardy and will grow through the winter and into spring. Some are perennials and will grow for several years.

There will be Master Gardeners on hand to answer questions on how to care for the various plants and vegetables. We will also have information available on how to become a Master Gardener!
