An Odessa man has been arrested in connection with last week’s death of a pedestrian on East Eighth Street.

According to the City of Odessa, police were notified of a vehicle-pedestrian accident near 8th Street and Lettie Lee around 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24.

Officers determined Bracia Paige was trying to cross the roadway outside of a crosswalk when a Chevrolet Silverado being driven by Jose Armando Gonzalez, 25,struck him. Paige was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, investigators used video surveillance to determine Gonzalez was likely traveling 59 miles an hour at the time of the crash and crash data from the Chevy indicated he was going 58 mph, the report stated. The speed limit in that area is 35 mph.

Investigators also determined Gonzalez didn’t have a driver’s license or insurance.
