A 35-year-old man was arrested he reportedly choked a woman and then threatened her with a knife stated “I will kill you b****.”
Ryale Moses was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (family violence), a second-degree felony.
The reported incident happened at 6:45 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Southgate Apartment Homes located at 2735 E. Eighth Street, an Odessa Police Department probable cause affidavit stated.
When officers arrived, they reportedly made contact with Moses and Jayla Grimes. Moses was in the kitchen at the time and officers asked him to exit the residence to speak with them.
Officers saw Moses to have unsteady balance, glassy eyes, and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from his person at this time, the affidavit stated. Officers asked Moses what happened and he was unable to provide a clear account and made comments such as “a little of this and that” and “you know how females are” when asked about specifics, the affidavit stated.
Officers reportedly separated Grimes from the situation and spoke with her separately. Grimes stated the incident started when Moses referred to her as a “b****” when speaking to his mother on the phone. Grimes stated she confronted Moses in the kitchen about calling her that and the altercation ensued.
Grimes stated that Moses threw her down onto the couch in the living room, which caused her to face away from him, the affidavit stated. Grimes stated that Moses then placed her in a chokehold. Grimes showed officers how Moses was holding her.
Grimes reportedly told police that Moses held her in this position for about 20 seconds and the entire time she was unable to breathe. Grimes stated she had to fight her way out of the choke as Moses wasn’t letting go.
Grimes continued to detail that once she got away she went to the bedroom to separate herself, the affidavit stated. Grimes stated she went back outside her room at which point Moses threw a piece of foil at her and then came toward her in a threatening manner while holding a knife and stated “I will kill you b****”.
Officers reportedly saw minor blood vessels in Grimes’ eyes to have burst consistent with being choked. Due to Grimes’ dark skin, officers weren’t able to see any marks around her neck, but there was an old bruise on her right arm which she stated happened during a previous incident for which the police weren’t called.
Moses was arrested, charged and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. He had one bond totaling $30,000 and he posted bail on Sept. 27, jail records show.
