Man charged with choking girlfriend

A 25-year-old man was arrested after police say he choked his girlfriend.

Anthony Minjarez was charged with assault by impeding breathing or circulation, a third-degree felony.

The reported assault happened at 5:30 a.m. Dec. 19 at the Cielo Vista Townhomes located at 2320 E. 21st Street, an Odessa Police Department probable cause affidavit stated.

Officers made contact with the victim, identified as Bailey Perales, who had red marks on and around her lips. Perales also had a red scratch and red marks on the right side of her neck as well as a red mark on the left side of her neck.

Perales stated an argument started between her and boyfriend, Minjarez, the affidavit stated. The argument turned physical when Minjarez pinned Perales against the bedroom wall and placed his hand on the front of her neck. Minjarez squeezed Perales’ neck to the extent where she was unable to breath.

Minjarez was booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on Dec. 19, jail records show. He has one bond totaling $15,000 and was still in custody as of Wednesday morning.
