Man arrested on rape charge

An Edinburg man was arrested Friday after being accused of raping a woman who thought he was her friend.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, officers were dispatched to the 3700 block of Andrews Highway about a disturbance and when police arrived a woman told them she’d been sexually assaulted by Walter George Gordon, 42.

The woman said she and Gordon went out for a few drinks after he’d been released from the Ector County jail and she agreed to allow him to stay the night, the report stated.

Once they got home, the woman said Gordon took a shower and he attacked her when she went to check on him, the report stated.

According to the report, the woman told police she unsuccessfully tried to fight him off by biting, scratching and kicking him and officers observed scratches and marks that corroborated the woman’s claims.

Gordon, who had been in jail on a misdemeanor theft charge, claimed the sex was consensual. However, he refused to give a statement, the report stated.

He was booked back into the jail on suspicion of sexual assault, a second-degree felony, with a $50,000 surety bond.
