Man accused of striking girlfriend with brick

An Odessa man was arrested Saturday after his girlfriend accused him of hitting her in the head with a brick during an argument.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, officers received a call about a man and a woman fighting in the 2900 block of North Washington around 2 pm. Saturday.

When officers arrived, Rafael Ramirez Torres, 38, said he and his 36-year-old girlfriend had been arguing and he showed them video of the altercation. According to the report, he said he got upset and threw a brick through his girlfriend’s windshield after she threw one through his camper window.

Torres told officers he tried to knock bricks out of his girlfriend’s hands by blocking her and following her around the area, the report stated.

When officers spoke with the girlfriend, they saw she had a knot on her forehead and called for medical personnel to check her out, the report stated.

She told officers they were fighting over a brick when he hit her in the head with it, the report stated.

Torres was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and booked into the Ector County jail. He was released Monday after posting a $50,000 surety bond.
