Man accused of sex with 14-year-old

A 24-year-old Odessa man was booked into the Ector County jail early Tuesday morning after police said they found evidence substantiating a 14-year-old girl’s claim the two had sex earlier this year.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, the girl told her father that after she ran away from home she had sex with a man named Shane who was roughly 20-years-old. The father then filed a report with OPD.

On March 1, the girl told a forensic interviewer in Ohio she met Shane through a friend and they communicated a lot using Snapchat, the report stated. She described having sex for a few hours in the back seat of Shane’s dark-colored truck and Shane’s anime tattoo. She also recalled he worked for “NorTex.”

The girl’s father provided police with the month and day Shane told the girl he was born and a detective determined Shane Walker Gilbert was the suspect, the report stated.

On May 21, someone confirmed the girl and Gilbert were involved and they had been told the pair had gotten high together and had sex in Gilbert’s truck, the report stated.

Gilbert declined to speak with detectives May 24, but they observed he had an anime tattoo and a gray 2018 Titan, the report stated. In addition, they found an explicit photo of the girl in the back seat of a vehicle and the interior of that vehicle matched the Titan’s, the report stated.

A warrant was issued for Gilbert and he was booked into the Ector County jail on suspicion of sexual assault of a child, a second-degree felony. He was released after posting a $25,000 surety bond.
