Man accused of assaulting wife in front of daughter

A 42-year-old Odessa man was arrested last week after a 10-year-old girl told police she saw him push her mom against a wall, slap her and put a gun to her face.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, officers received a disturbance call from the 800 block of Summer Avenue around 11 p.m. June 18.

When officers arrived, a 40-year-old woman told officers her former husband, Ramiro Brito Jr., accused her of cheating on him with his roommate and pushed her, pinned her against a wall, slapped her and forced the barrel of his handgun into her face, the report stated.

The woman said she was able to get away from Brito after calling for help from her 19-year-old son, the report stated. Police found her and her daughter in a vehicle across the street from the home when they arrived and the girl corroborated her story.

Brito wouldn’t open the door to police, telling them nothing happened and he never touched his former wife.

He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He remained in the Ector County jail Monday night on a $50,000 surety bond.
