This Easter Sunday will be filled with laughs and smiles, pastel-colored dresses and wide-brimmed hats. Children will be joyously reaching for the chocolate bunnies or the egg they’ve just found on their hunt. But beyond the pastel colors and sweets, our families will be gathered to celebrate the resurrection of the Son of God.
John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
And two millennia ago Christ our Lord did the miraculous. On the third day after His crucifixion and burial in the tomb, He overcame death and rose from the dead.
Through that action he took the black ash of our suffering, grief, and sorrow and wiped it clean. He gives us hope and reminds us of the power of redemption and love. We are imperfect human beings, but we are saved by the Lord’s grace.
Easter is the start of a new life forged in the crucible of sacrifice – It is our call to rise. We celebrate Christ’s resurrection today, but also the possibility of our own redemption.
As West Texans we know a little bit about adversity, we are enduring people. In the wake of tragedy and sorrow, we rise. Though impossible as it might feel sometimes to overcome the suffering that comes in life, today we are reminded that we can.
On this holy day may you and your loved ones celebrate the Spirit of Easter with love and joy, Shelby, Hollis Rose and I wish your family a blessed Easter filled with happiness, and peace and harmony.
God bless Texas!
