January sales tax rebate up

The City of Odessa received its January sales tax check, in the amount of, $5,804,469.61. This amount includes the Economic Development sales tax of ¼ cent. The City of Odessa will receive $4,643,575.69 and the Odessa Development Corporation will receive $1,160,893.92.

The City saw an increase in sales tax revenue with January’s sales tax revenue total of $4,643,575.69, which reflects a $987,327.09, or 27% increase as compared to January 2022.

The year-to-date total sales tax revenue for fiscal year 2022-23 is up 33.82%, or $4,651,277.87 as compared to budgeted amount expected at this point in the fiscal year.

In addition, the 2022-23 year-to-date amount is above the previous fiscal year-to-date amount by $3,246,727.49 or 21.42%. The City has budgeted $44,000,000 in net sales tax revenues for this current fiscal year.

Sales tax revenue is generated by sales tax revenue from two months prior to collection, i.e., January’s collection is based on November sales.

Medical Center Hospital reports it will receive $4,677,620 this month in sales tax, which is an increase of about 29% for same time period last year.
