As a precaution, Ireland Elementary, 4301 Dawn Ave., was closed part of Friday.
Parents were asked to pick up their children by noon, at which time any students still on campus were bused to Ross Elementary to await pick up by their parents.
Over the past three days, a news release stated, Ireland staff and students have reported the smell of gas inside the building at different times and several have become ill.
Odessa Fire & Rescue and Atmos were on campus multiple times to conduct inspections and did not find any problems with the heating and ventilation systems. At this time, the district does not have a reason to explain the illnesses, so, in order to be cautious classes were dismissed for the rest of Friday. Additional inspections of the building and the area were expected Friday afternoon. It is expected school will be back in session on Monday, the release said.
