Harmony Science Academy’s Marjon Roche is this year’s SPARK award winner from Texas.
The SPARK Award was created in 2019 by the Alliant group to recognize elementary science teachers who are increasing student achievement and engagement through innovative lesson plans that emphasize both the importance and fun aspects of science.
Applicants must be full-time elementary science teachers from an accredited Texas school to be considered for this award. They must apply and include a video explaining how they keep students engaged in science, which, for Roche, consists of fun and educational hands-on activities that make the learning process enjoyable for the students. By being named the winner, Roche will receive $500 towards his classroom and a minimum of $1,300.
“Receiving the SPARK People’s Choice Award is an immense honor, and I am profoundly grateful for the support and encouragement from my friends, family, and colleagues,” Roche, Science Teacher. said in a news release. “This recognition, especially from the Alliant Group, highlights the importance of elementary science education and inspires me to continue fostering a love for science in my students.”
“We rely on our wonderful STEM teachers in the U.S. to light the fire of creativity and innovation so that we can keep up in the global technology arms race,” Dhaval Jadav, CEO of Alliant Group, said in the release.
Roche has always been passionate about teaching science. From a young age, he was fascinated by how the world works and wanted to share that curiosity. Over the years, he has focused on creating engaging and interactive learning experiences that make science accessible and exciting for all students, the release said.
Harmony Science Academy Odessa is a tuition-free, open-enrollment public charter school that provides high-quality education with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) for students in Kinder – Grade 8. Character.org recently named Harmony Science Academy a State School of Character. Harmony is currently accepting applications for the 2024-2025 school year.
