Blanton Elementary School held a special event Feb. 17 for "National Kindness Day." The focus was on spreading the joy of reading. The Bookworms Literacy Program, sponsored by the Education Foundation of Odessa, provides books to children in the hope that these stories will be read at home and enjoyed with family. Part of the program is inviting community leaders to inspire children to read. That's where the Odessa Police Department officers stepped in to read to the students. Copies of the books read were all given to students.
