Former boyfriend facing burglary charge

A 38-year-old Odessa man was arrested Monday night after police said video surveillance showed him trying to force his former girlfriend into a car against her will.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, officers were dispatched to a disturbance call in the 7200 block of West Pile Ranch Road around 8 p.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, a 33-year-old woman told them she was eating dinner when her former boyfriend, Douglas James Lewis, came inside yelling at her, the report stated.

She told officers Lewis dragged her by the wrist outside to an Infiniti Q60 parked across the street and tried to shove her inside, but she was able to get away, the report stated. She said during the struggle Lewis grabbed her phone and he ended up driving off with it.

According to the report, multiple witnesses corroborated the story as did surveillance video.

Lewis admitted going to the woman’s house and said it was because he was receiving messages from another man, the report stated. He also admitted grabbing her arm and escorting her to his car. As for the phone, he said he’d planned to return it.

Lewis was booked into the Ector County jail on suspicion of burglary of a habitation, a second-degree felony. He was released Tuesday after posting a surety bond of $25,000.
