Odessa’s popular Firecracker Fandango will return July 2 with a scaled down, but action-packed event featuring a car and motorcycle show, live music, food truck and various kid’s activities.
The free, family-friendly event will kick-off with a 6 to 8 p.m. car and motorcycle show at Texas Ave. from 4th to 6th streets in downtown Odessa, said Alexa Moulakis, event coordinator for Downtown Odessa Inc. A free music concert from 8 to 10 p.m. will be held inside the Ector Theatre.
“Last year would have been our 25th anniversary but due to COVID-19 it had to be cancelled,” Moulakis said. “We wanted to return with a scaled-back event this year, but next year will be bigger.”
Another reason for this year’s smaller event is that the Fourth of July is on a Sunday, which made it difficult to schedule evening activities.
Organizers are still optimistic that people will show up for the event.
“It’s a chance for people to get out and get together again,” Moulakis said. “After a year of being indoors people are ready to see old friends and do things.”
