CORPUS CHRISTI Texas Land Commissioner and Veteran Land Board Chairwoman Dr. Dawn Buckingham is proud to announce that the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery will be conducting an expansion groundbreaking Sept. 22 at 9974 IH 37 Access Road, Corpus Christi.
The scope of the work includes the installation of 3,130 crypts and 1,250 additional columbaria niches to provide more opportunities for the cemetery to serve Veterans and their families. There will also be other improvements to the cemetery including grading and drainage improvements, landscaping, and irrigation work.
Space Force flags and seals will also be included along with a motorized main entry gate, off-site access road construction access road and perimeter fence repairs, and an additional single-sided columbaria wall.
The VLB has received $8 million in grant funding from the National Cemetery Administration and the Veterans Benefits Administration to complete this project.
