Environmental enforcement hosting free bulky item drop off

The Ector County Environmental Enforcement Department recently purchased a $266,938 Peterbilt grapple truck that will aid in the removal of larger and heavier discarded trash like couches and mattresses. The heavy duty truck is also capable of carrying roll-off bins, allowing the grappler to haul ten times as much as the previous trucks in service according to Precinct 1 Commissioner Mike Gardner. In an effort to eliminate the illegal dumping in Ector County, the Ector County Environmental Enforcement Unit announced on Tuesday that it will be providing a free bulky item drop off for residents of Ector County from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

The location of the drop off will be at the 16261 South US Highway 385, which is the northeast corner at South 385 and FM 1787 in South Ector County.

Many of the items that are illegally dumped in Ector County are mattresses and discarded furniture. This is an opportunity to dispose of these items. All loads will be inspected at the gate to ensure we will be able to accept them.

The following items won’t be accepted:

  • Any type of oils and oil filters.
  • Car batteries.
  • Household and Commercial hazardous waste.
  • Masonry debris such as tile, brick, rocks, and etc.
  • Paints.
  • Remodeling demolition.
  • Refrigerators.
  • Tree Limbs.
  • Any waste from Commercial Businesses.
  • Small trash that will fit in your residential trash container.
