The Education Foundation will celebrate its 21st birthday at 6 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Odessa Marriott.
It will be a celebration of all the Foundation has accomplished, and a look into the innovative projects the future holds.
The honoree will be founder Lorraine Perryman and the guest speaker will be De Kwaan Wynn. Wynn had a tough home life, but had the fortune to meet people who believed in him as he discovered a program designed to assure he would not fall through the cracks.
An Odessa High School graduate, Wynn is a product of the AVID program brought by the Education Foundation. Through AVID and the persistence of individuals who refused to see him fail, he persevered to graduate from Baylor University with a bachelor’s in accounting and earned his master’s degree in computer science from Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi, a newsletter from Ector County ISD said.
Perryman’s mission 21 years ago was to launch an organization whose sole purpose was to elevate education in Ector County. With grants for classroom innovation to a Catalyst Committee searching for the next big thing, the Education Foundation was born.
As the Foundation grew, Perryman teamed with a group of visionaries to bring the AVID program to ECISD. Lorraine could clearly envision young people like Wynn finding success in the midst of seemingly impossible situations. Her commitment to serve her hometown has left an indelible mark, the newsletter said.
