Now that redistricting work is complete, Ector County ISD trustees are moving to appoint a new Position 7 member to the school board.
The application period opened last week and residents of Position 7 have until June 3 to verify eligibility, submit a resume and a cover letter if they are interest in serving the community in this manner, a news release said.
Anyone interested can visit this ECISD webpage to check eligibility requirements and to apply. The cover letter must include answers to a series of questions outlined on the website.
School board members will host two town hall meetings for those interested in serving:
>> Tuesday, May 31, 6-7 p.m. at Blanton Elementary, 4101 Lynbrook Ave.
>> Wednesday, June 1, 6-7 p.m. at Nimitz Middle School, 4900 Maple Ave.
Trustees will review all applications through June 14, then select candidates to be interviewed during the June 21 school board meeting. The person appointed will fill that seat until the next general election date, which is May 2023.
The application, resume and cover letter must be turned in by the end of the day on June 3 at [email protected] or mailed to Attention: Superintendent, 802 N. Sam Houston, Odessa, Texas 79761.
Position 7 became vacant when former Trustees Nelson Minyard resigned in January. Since that time, ECISD and other local government entities have been in the process of reviewing redistricting plans following the 2020 U.S. Census.
At the May 17 board meeting, trustees unanimously approved new voter districts for each of the seven school board positions. The new maps posted on the Board of Trustees webpage.
