Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis reported on Sunday the Crane County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Ector County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a wanted barricaded subject in the 3200 block of Haley St. in Crane County.
At about 4:15 p.m. Salvador Manzo Jr., 44, was struck by gunfire from an Ector County Deputy after he grabbed a handgun. Manzo Jr. was immediately transported to MCH ER where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.
The deputy, whose name will be withheld at this time, has been placed on Administrative Leave for an undetermined amount of time. The Texas Rangers were called and are currently conducting the investigation.
