ECISD awarded CoSN Trusted Learning Environment Seal for student data privacy practices

WASHINGTON, D.C. CoSN on Tuesday awarded the Trusted Learning Environment (TLE) Seal to Ector County Independent School District in Odessa. The CoSN TLE Seal is a national distinction awarded to school districts that implement rigorous privacy policies and practices to help protect student information.

The CoSN TLE Seal Program requires school systems to implement high standards for student data privacy protections around five core practice areas: Leadership, Business, Data Security, Professional Development and Classroom.

“We applaud the work of Ector County Independent School District, which serves as yet another example of a district leveraging the CoSN TLE Seal program privacy framework to improve their student data privacy practices. We are delighted to see the ongoing growth of the program in Texas,” Keith Krueger, CEO, CoSN, said in a news release.

“The CoSN Trusted Learning Environment Seal is the result of three years of work by a team of dedicated ECISD staff,” said Kellie Wilks, Chief Technology Officer, Ector County ISD. “Online safety and the security of our student and staff information is our priority, and this work establishes the standards that create a safe digital environment. I am proud of the work that our ECISD team has done to earn the Trusted Learning Environment Seal.”

The CoSN TLE Seal is the only privacy framework designed specifically for school systems. Earning the TLE Seal requires that school systems have taken measurable steps to implement, maintain and improve organization-wide student data privacy practices. All TLE Seal recipients are required to demonstrate that improvement through a reapplication process every two years.
