The Black Cultural Council of Odessa has scheduled the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration through Monday.
The follow events are as follows:
Today: 7 p.m., Third annual MLK Showcase Basketball Tournament at Woodson Boys & Girls Club, 1037 E. Murphy St. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children and free for children ages 5 and younger.
Saturday: 1 p.m., Third annual MLK Showcase Basketball Tournament at Woodson Boys & Girls Club. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children and free for children ages 5 and younger.
Sunday: 3:30 p.m., Gospel celebration at First United Methodist Church, 415 N. Lee Ave. The speaker will be the Rev. Christopher C. Moore, senior pastor of New Mount Calvary Baptist Church of Houston. Admission is free.
Monday: 10 a.m. to noon, King Brunch at Woodson Community Center, 1000 E. Murphy St. The speaker will be the Rev. Roy L. Colvin Sr., pastor of Parks Memorial COGIC. Admission is free. Followed by, The Freedom Parade line up at 12:30 p.m. at I-20 and South Dixie Boulevard. The parade will start at 1:30 p.m. The route will start North on Dixie Boulevard to Murphy Street, then right, go east, then right on Woodson Street and disband in front of the Woodson Center. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third. The Odessa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Candle Light Vigil will follow immediately after the parade.
