Detectives solve case in one day

A 20-year-old Odessa man already in jail on drug charges was arrested Tuesday on a burglary charge after he confessed to committing the crime.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, a West 18th Street resident called police in May to report $4,900 she left in her car had been stolen after she forgot to close her garage door upon coming home.

On Monday, an OPD detective was assigned to the case and when he spoke with the victim she said her neighbors told her they thought Isaac Franco, 20, had committed the burglary, the report stated.

Detectives learned Franco had been arrested a week after the burglary and he had $2,800 in $100 bills in his possession at the time, the report stated.

When a detective went to speak with Franco at the Ector County jail on Tuesday, he confessed to committing the burglary while on drugs, according to the report.

Franco was arrested on suspicion of burglary of a habitation, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison.

He remains in jail on surety bonds totaling $51,000 in the burglary and earlier drug case. He’s also being held without bond in a 2022 Ector County District Court drug case.
