A 33-year-old man accused of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to five years in prison.
The convicted, Mark Anthony Alejo, pled guilty to three counts of indecency with a child, a second-degree felony, Feb. 7 in the 358th District Court of Judge Stacy Trotter. Jason Leach was his court-appointed attorney.
Odessa police were first notified of the sexual assault last August, and after investigating and talking to the victim, determined she had been assaulted by Alejo, whom she knew, an Odessa Police Department news release said.
While speaking to Alejo’s girlfriend, Yvonne Garcia, about the allegations at her residence, the release stated, Alejo reportedly was at the residence and jumped out of a window when officers arrived, despite Garcia’s claim that she had not seen him recently.
Alejo was soon arrested and charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child, which was lowered to indecency with a child following Alejo’s guilty plea.
Garcia was also charged with interfering with public duties, a class B misdemeanor, and has a trial date scheduled for Feb. 26.
