An Ector County Sheriff’s Office press release on Wednesday detailed a 28-year-old man was arrested in connection to injuries of a 10-month-old girl.
Edward Lira, 28, was charged with injury to a child causing serious bodily injury, a first-degree felony.
ECSO received a call from Medical Center Hospital at 6:28 a.m. Dec. 2 in reference to a 10-month-old girl in critical condition from injuries she sustained, the press release stated.
Odessa EMS transported the girl from the 11000 block of W. Kassnar Drive after reports of an unresponsive child. At the time, the child, along with another 2-year-old girl, were in custody of the step-father.
The 10-month-old girl was unconscious and in the process of being airlifted to University Medical Center in Lubbock with life threatening injuries, which medical personnel advised indicated possible abuse, the press release stated.
ECSO initiated a criminal investigation.
During the investigation, the stepfather of the injured child was identified as Lira. It was determined during the interview that Lira was the only person in care and custody of both children and responsible for the injuries the child had sustained.
Lira was booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center on Dec. 3, jail records show. He had one bond totaling $50,000 and he posted bail on Dec. 6.
