The Odessa Police Department is reportedly looking for a second suspect involved in an officer-involved shooting on Monday.
According to the OPD Facebook post, a 16-year-old boy has been arrested in connection to the shooting and he has been charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, a first-degree felony.
Ector County Youth Center Director Kevin Mann said on Wednesday morning that the 16-year-old boy was at the facility and his detention hearing is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. Mann told the Odessa American the 16-year-old boy was ordered detained and his next detention hearing will be in 10 working days.
OPD reportedly responded to the area of Third Street and North County Road West around 10:20 p.m. Monday to assist Ector County Sheriff’s Office deputies. A robbery turned into a pursuit.
During a pursuit, shots were fired at officers and an OPD unit was struck, the Facebook post detailed. No one was hurt. The 16-year-old boy was arrested and charged, while the second suspect is still on the run.
Rather than issuing press releases via email to media outlets, the Odessa Police Department has chosen to put information on the OPD app and on its Facebook page. However, the OPD app isn’t updated regularly. There have been a total of five updates over the past week on its OPD app.
The investigation continues.
