City council to discuss state opioid settlement

For more than 30 minutes during last Tuesday’s work session, the Office of the Attorney General gave its opioid settlement presentation to the Odessa City Council with the looming deadline of Jan. 2, 2022.

The city council will discuss the matter during its only scheduled meeting of December at 6 p.m. Tuesday on the fifth floor of City Hall in the City Council Chambers located at 411 W. Eighth St.

City manager Michael Marrero is scheduled to speak about considering adopting the State of Texas and Texas Political Subdivisions’ Opioid Abatement Fund Council and Settlement Allocation Term Sheet regarding the substantial need for repayment of opioid-related expenditures and payment to abate opioid-related harms in the City of Odessa and Ector County.

The City of Odessa would be included in Region 14. As of Tuesday, the confirmed sign-ons in the region include the City of Alpine, City of Pecos and Pecos County, City of Midland and Midland County, City of Big Spring and Howard County and Reeves County.
