The principal of Bonham Middle School, Mareka Austin, has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
Juan Dominguez is currently the acting principal, Chief Communications Officer Mike Adkins said. He is a coordinator in the leadership department and Adkins said he has experience and it doesn’t leave the Bonham staff “short-staffed with extra duties to cover.”
Adkins said this is Austin’s second year as principal at Bonham.
Adkins said it is a personnel matter and he said he could not say anything else. He added that there is no timeline for the investigation and it is being looked into by the administration.
Before moving to Odessa she led in several capacities in a small school district in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
She obtained a bachelor of business administration in finance from the University of Central Arkansas and a master of business administration and a master of educational leadership from Dallas Baptist University.
