PSP releases statement on the passing of Autry Stephens

The Permian Strategic Partnership released the following statement Friday on the passing of Autry Stephens:

Autry Stephens was a humble and visionary leader in the oil and gas industry and a titan of the Permian Basin community. His extraordinary journey to becoming one of the most transformational figures in the industry is a testament to his hopeful, optimistic, and entrepreneurial spirit.

“Autry was one of my early mentors when I arrived in Midland in 1975, and I am blessed to have called him a friend for the past 50 years,” said Donald L. Evans, Chairman of the Permian Strategic Partnership. “Autry’s life was defined by a deep love for his family, a strong pride in and affection for his employees, and an unwavering belief in the promise of the Permian Basin. He was a relentless pioneer and a sweet, caring soul with a heart of gold.”

Stephens will always be remembered among the leaders of the shale revolution, which transformed the United States from energy scarcity to abundance and established the Permian Basin as one of the largest secure supplies of energy in the world. America’s energy, economic, and national security are stronger as a result.

The Permian Strategic Partnership honors the life and legacy of Autry Stephens and extends our sincerest condolences to the Stephens family as they remember the remarkable life of an iconic man and the impact he had on the Permian Basin, Texas, and America.
