Odessa Police Department Detective Rene Chavez won the 2021 Top Gun Award. He’s considered the best shooter at the OPD for that year. Recently, he received a special award. The award was given to him by his brother, Sgt. Carlos Chavez, who’s also OPD’s Range Master and Most Senior Officer. He has been with the department for 34 years. He can’t take part in this competition anymore because he’s the Range Master. Before that though, he won the Top Gun Award six times.
