GOOD NEWS: OPD Spotlights

The Odessa Police Department recently recognized the following officers:

Detective Houston Golden was recently recognized as Employee of the Year.

Another detective submitted a letter outlining why he believes Golden is a standout employee. It was also approved by Chief Mike Gerke. He was described as always maintaining a positive attitude, dedicated to his job and the City of Odessa and always working to put forth his best efforts in all investigations.

Golden has been with OPD for 11 years. He is also qualified as a crash reconstructionist.

Officer Jody Baer has been with OPD for two years. He also has a military background and served in the Army.

“I was born and raised in Odessa and became an officer to help and serve the community I grew up in. The best part of being an officer is just that, doing my best to help those that need us,” Baer said.

Officer Alejandro Reyes has been with OPD for 2 1/2 years. He grew up in Odessa and is also fluent in Spanish.

“I joined OPD because it afforded me an opportunity to reach my potential in serving the community,” Reyes said. “What I love most is being able to help people during their hard times and making a direct impact in the community everyday.”

Officer Tyler Thelen has been with OPD for three years and served in the Army for more than five years. “Being a police officer is important to me because of the service it requires. Being there for the community has always been a part of me, since my days in the Army,” Thelen said.

Sgt. Brad Cline was once a plumber but always wanted to become a police officer. Cline will be promoted to Lieutenant. View more about Cline at https://fb.watch/eSslZyj0n4/.
