GOOD NEWS: Margaret Jones awarded the 2023 Gladdie Fowler Award for Outstanding Board Service

Margaret Jones will be awarded the 2023 Gladdie Fowler Award for Outstanding Board Service by the Texas Council of Community Centers in a ceremony at the 36th Annual Texas Council Conference on June 22 in Houston, a Wednesday press release announced.

In 2021, the Gladdie Fowler Award for Outstanding Board Service was added to the awards ceremony in memory of Ms. Gladdie Fowler, a beloved 35-year member of the Spindletop Center Board of Trustees and longstanding member of the Texas Council Board of Directors. In her name, recipients are honored from a Center’s Board of Trustees who best exemplify her spirit of servant leadership.

Margaret Jones exemplifies the spirit of servant leadership. As PermiaCare’s longest-tenured board member, she has been instrumental in the success of the center. In her 27 years on the PermiaCare Board of Trustees, she has served in almost every role. Currently the Chair of the Board, she provides helpful insight and guidance to PermiaCare staff and Board members. She provides leadership by example and is always willing to express her own valued opinion. She has been a stalwart proponent of employee engagement and wellbeing.

Margaret’s dedication to the community center system is unwavering. Her past experience as the Executive Director of Samaritan Counseling Center gives her a unique perspective into the complexities of mental health care. Her passion for quality behavioral health care is infectious and her quiet, constant dedication to advocating for the behavioral health community has shown her to be an important representative for PermiaCare and the Community Center system in state and federal government as she meets with varying levels of elected officials to support the initiatives of the Community Center system.

Margaret also represents PermiaCare on the Texas Council of Community Centers Board of Directors, where she promotes the advancement of the way in which the people in our community receive and benefit from services. Margaret has been involved in the West Texas community as a part of many other community agency boards, often in a leadership capacity. In 2016, she was honored with the esteemed Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest Women of Distinction Award, an award given to those who exemplify women of courage, confidence, and character, making the world a better place.

Margaret exemplifies Gladdie Fowler’s spirit of servant leadership through her service and dedication to PermiaCare, the West Texas community, and the Community Center system. She shows a strong respect and compassion for all people and works tirelessly for the causes important to PermiaCare and the community.
