2 Texas state veterans homes receive Commitment to Quality Bronze Award

AUSTIN Texas Land Commissioner and Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dr. Dawn Buckingham announced Thursday that the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home (TSVH) in Big Spring and the Frank M. Tejeda TSVH in Floresville received the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) Commitment to Quality Bronze Award.

“As VLB Chairwoman, it is an honor to recognize the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring and the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville for the incredible achievement of receiving the Commitment to Quality Bronze Award,” Buckingham said in a news release. “The VLB works hard to provide high-quality long-term care to Veterans across Texas, and this award highlights the dedication these homes have to improving the quality of life of Texas Veterans and the staff who care for them. I want to thank Touchstone Communities, which operates both homes, for their unwavering commitment to excellence. I look forward to the continued success of our invaluable Texas State Veterans Homes.”

The AHCA/NCAL Quality Award Program spotlights organizations that continuously meet rigorous performance standards to enhance the lives of residents and staff at long-term and post-acute care facilities.

  • Only 709 out of 15,000 plus facilities were recognized by this award program in 2024.
  • Of those 709 facilities, 16 were in Texas.
  • Two of the Texas facilities were VLB Texas State Veterans Homes.
  • Touchstone Communities operates both of these homes.

The Bronze Award is the first step in the AHCA/NCAL Quality Award Program. At this level, organizations can solidify a profile, including their mission, vision, and other critical factors contributing to their success. After the Bronze Award level, organizations can apply for the Silver Award, which focuses on how effective an organization is and how it can improve.

After obtaining the Bronze and Silver Awards, organizations can receive the final Gold Award. This award recognizes superior leadership, strategic planning, and customer and staff satisfaction.
