The Helping Hands Children’s Ministry will host a Blessing of the Animals service at 6 p.m. Oct. 4 in the courtyard of St. Nicholas’ Episcopal Church.
“We join churches around the world celebrating the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi,” the Rev. Amy Haynie said in a news release. “Beloved the world over, St. Francis is especially known for his love of all animals. We welcome all pets and their humans to participate in our blessing.”
Haynie, who has served as church rector since November 2022, said the service demonstrates the love and concern God and the church have for all of creation.
“I am very proud of the children involved in the Helping Hands Ministry. Like St. Francis, they are making a big impact in our community through outreach and service to others,” Haynie added.
This year, the Helping Hands Ministry has delivered snacks to all city fire stations, filled 150 Christmas stockings for the Jubilee Center food pantry, visited elderly parishioners, and most recently, furnished food and supplies to a non-profit animal shelter.
Every animal will be blessed during the service. All animals must be leashed or in carriers, and snacks will be served.
