The people at Tall City Brewing Company don’t care if you say it’s “5 O’Clock Somewhere” or “Beer Thirty,” all they care about is making sure the people of West Texas are ready to make new friends in the craft beer business.

At 3 p.m., Sept. 7, the Midland-based company is scheduled to host their third annual Tall City Brewing Invitational, where local, regional and state brewers will get to share their specialty beers.

Craft beers are beers made in a non-mechanized way by a small brewery.

Since its inception, the invitational started with a dozen breweries and has grown into an event with more than 20 businesses and 75 taps coming to Midland.

The theme revolves around West Texas culture, with this year’s event being called “The Great Marathon,” named after a group of roadrunners.

No actual running will be involved.

“Just like any other beer festival, you go in and you sample some beer, and it’s usually the distributor pouring them, but the people pouring the beer here for our Invitational feels more personal because they are our friends in the industry,” Sales and Marketing Manager for Tall City Brewing Stephen Alexander said.

The event will be held at Tall City Brewing Company’s location at 3303 W. Golf Road, Midland, and will include live music and food trucks. General admissions tickets are $65 and VIP tickets, which include entry at 2 p.m. the day of the event, are $85.

All general admission guests will get a tasting card that is good for 12 tastings, and VIP tickets will come with two tasting cards. All guests must be 21 years or older.

A list of beers will be released a week before the event but will include appearances from Pondaseta Brewing Company out of Amarillo, Jester King Brewery from Austin, and Turning Point Beer from Bedford.

Alexander said people are invited to come and taste different flavors they may not get locally.

“Over half of these breweries attending have either won awards at a state level, competed at the Great American Beer Festival, which is the national level, or competed at the World Beer Cup, which is a global competition,” Alexander said. “And they’re bringing those beers here to support our event.”
