Ex-con facing multiple felonies

An Odessa man was arrested Friday afternoon after his girlfriend told authorities he pointed a gun at her during an argument over her children.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, dispatchers received a disturbance call from the 1800 block of Walnut Avenue around 11:45 a.m. Friday. The caller said Abel Valenzuela had pointed a gun at a woman.

When officers arrived, they saw a man go inside the house and two women remain outside. They spoke with the women who told them the man, Valenzuela, 29, had taken the gun inside, the report stated.

Officers went through the house and determined Valenzuela was no longer inside, but they found a 12-gauge shotgun poking out from underneath a bed, the report stated.

One of the women, 17, told officers she and her sister, 22, went to the home to grab her children, but Valenzuela said she couldn’t take the kids, but she could leave, the report stated.

She said he placed a magazine inside the weapon and escorted her outside the home, the report stated.

The woman’s sister said Valenzuela pushed her sister out of the house and she saw him point the gun at her, the report stated.

The sister said she was able to get one of the children into their car and when she told Valenzuela she was calling 911, he put the gun back in the house and allowed them to take the children, the report stated.

Officers found an intoxicated Valenzuela in a nearby alley and he admitted to having a verbal argument, but denied a gun was involved, the report stated.

Valenzuela was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm and public intoxication. He was also arrested onan outstanding warrant for allegedly violating his parole.

He remains in the Ector County jail on the warrant and surety bonds totaling $65,000.
