Wildcatters event raises funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters

MIDLAND More than 500 people gathered at La Hacienda Oct. 3 to hear Randall King and help raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Permian Basin.

Attendees were treated to mechanical bull rides, Plinko, Pig Races, Money Tornado and Spin the Wheel games, while enjoying mouth-watering barbecue from True Texas BBQ. They also had the opportunity to bid on bucket-list trips from AmFund to such tempting destinations as Zurich, Africa, Ireland, Spain and Portugal. For dessert, concert goers roasted marshmallows for s’mores.

All funds raised will be used to help mentor more children in Midland and Ector Counties. “Mentoring is a critical aspect of a child’s development,” Big Brothers Big Sisters Director Kayla Minchew said in a news release. “Children who have mentors in their lives have increased high school graduation rates, healthier relationships and lifestyle choices, enhanced self-esteem and self-confidence, improved behavior, improved interpersonal skills and decreased likelihood of initiating drug and alcohol use. All of these are strong positives for the future of our communities.”
