Texas PTA recognizes LBJ PTA

The LBJ Elementary PTA has earned two awards from Texas PTA — the Head Start Award and MARS (Men Are Really Super) Involvement Award.

Tabitha Wooldridge, president of the LBJ PTA, said they were also recognized as one of the two PTAs in Ector County ISD that are in good standing with Texas PTA. There are 16 PTAs within ECISD, she said.

“Our PTA is here to help support LBJ Elementary in any way that we can. If that is volunteering our time to help at the school, fundraising so that we can obtain things for the school that they do not have funds for due to budget cuts across the district, teacher appreciation meals, fun treats and days to include all the students and staff,” Wooldridge said.

They have had two fundraisers so far, a flea market and a color run.

“We have been able to purchase math programs for grades 1-5, new carpet in the gym, welcome back meal and snacks for the teacher during training before school, at back to school every student received free cotton candy and a Knight plastic bracelet as a welcome back, hot chocolate and donuts one morning when it was raining during drop off for the teacher and staff, all students got a Rice Krispies Treat for National Rice Krispies Day,” she said.

They are currently gearing up for the Oct. 19 Fall Festival, which will be open to the whole community. The PTA is looking for sponsors for the festival.

Along with Wooldridge, officers include David Carpentier, vice president; Sergio Helguera, treasurer; Lydia Ybarra, secretary; and Zenovia Crier, Principal.
