>> Notes: Midland Legacy’s brutal nondistrict schedule continues with Abilene High. The Rebels are still searching for their first win of the season. Legacy quarterback Jaden Rogers left the game due to an injury in last week’s loss. … Abilene High’s second half comeback came up just short against Permian as two passes to the end zone fell incomplete on the Eagles’ final drive. Abilene High outscored the Panthers 21-7 in the second half.

El Paso Montwood at Midland High

>> Last Season: Midland High 39, El Paso Montwood 14

>> Notes: Things won’t get any easier this week for an El Paso Montwood team that’s still winless. Trying to stop the Bulldogs’ rushing attack should be a challenge. … The Bulldogs needed to overcome an 14-point deficit last week in Amarillo but managed to win in an offensive shootout.

Wolfforth Frenship at Lubbock-Cooper

>> Records: Wolfforth Frenship 2-1; Lubbock-Cooper 3-0

>> Last Week: Wolfforth Frenship 70, Wichita Falls Legacy 7; Lubbock-Cooper 27, Amarillo Tascosa 7

>> Last Season: Wolfforth Frenship 35, Lubbock-Cooper 34

>> Notes: Wolfforth Frenship flexed its muscles against Wichita Falls Legacy last week. Now the Tigers get their toughest test of the season-at least until Midland Legacy- when they face Class 5A powerhouse Lubbock-Cooper. … Lubbock-Cooper-which looks to make a deep run in the state playoffs this year- will be tested early in the season with Wolfforth Frenship’s high-scoring offense. The Pirates’ defense will have to be up to the task this week.

Belton at San Angelo Central

>> Records: Belton 0-3; San Angelo Central 1-2

>> Last Week: East View 48, Belton 14; San Angelo Central 31, Abilene Cooper 27

>> Last Season: Belton 41, San Angelo Central 38

>> Notes: It hasn’t been as pretty of a start for Belton compared to last year. While the Tigers have faced good competition, they’ve only scored 24 total points so far this season. … San Angelo Central finally got its first win under head coach Mark Smith. The 27 points scored from Abilene Cooper last were the lowest the Bobcats’ defense has allowed all season.
