NUGGETS: Let’s don’t take our independence for granted

By Jannie Linney

We are so blessed to live in a nation that we can still have the freedom to make our own choices. We have the freedom to go to the Church of our choice or not go to church. We are thankful our newspapers can print what they choose. We have freedom to work in the workplace we choose or not work and let the government take care of us. Now I ask what other nation could we have privileges as we do here in this good old USA.

When we look at the other nations around the world, we see where the Christians have to hide to pray, where some are even losing their life for their faith. We think about the nations of people who are hungry and seeing their children dying from starvation. There are nations where there is no freedom of speech; they have no choice of where they work. They work for the government on demand for little or no salary. Having food commodities less than enough to feed their family.

Seeing all this makes me so thankful to be an American. This nation may have some problems, but it’s still the best place in the world to live. People can choose to leave and live in another country if they don’t like this one. I pray we will not take what we have for granted. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” [Ps. 33: 12 A]. The word of God tells us to pray for those set in authority. If we have our right mind, we will be informed and vote to protect our nation from evil. Pray for those that are here illegal. Pray that if they are allowed to vote, they will trick the devil and vote for the good of this nation, just in case they get to stay. God is able to do anything.

We are blessed for several different reasons. The fact that we were established a Christian nation, one nation under God, is one. All through the Bible, when a nation rebelled against God, God’s wrath was poured out on that nation. Because God is Lord over all and the creator of all things seen and unseen, no law can be passed to rule Him out. What happens, is, that God rules them out of the will and blessings of God. It’s a terrible thing to be in the hands of an angry God. We are still one Nation Under God, let’s don’t take it for granted.

The second reason is that we have always blessed Israel and stood with her. The Bible says, those who bless Israel will be blessed and those who curse Israel will be cursed. It does not say “If they deserve it” If we will read the Deuteronomy twenty eight, we find that if we are obedient to the word of God, blessings will overtake us.” “All scripture was given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction In righteousness” [2 Tim. 3:16]. All scripture, includes the Old Testament too.

The third is that we send missionaries all over the world. “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and of The Holy Spirit. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen” [Matt. 28: 19-20]. [Alway is the way the Bible has it printed.]

Any time we allow any one of those three things be legislated away from us, we will see the blessings of this nation decrease or even cease completely. Let’s Don’t Take Our Freedom, our “Independence For Granted.”
