Police: Boy left alone while mom visits nightclub

A 29-year-old Odessa woman was arrested on a felony child endangerment charge Saturday morning after police said she left her 2-year-old son home alone while she went clubbing.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, a relative called 911 shortly after midnight Saturday to say she found the boy running around his living room in an apparently empty home.

When an officer arrived at the home on Lakeside Drive, he found the main door unlocked and no one answered him when he announced himself, the report stated.

The officer stated the child walked over to him and he grabbed him, the report stated.

The relative who called 911 told the officer the boy’s mother, Gretell Suarez Negrin, might be at Club 305 and other officers found her vehicle in the back parking lot, the report stated.

Another relative told officers it was Negrin’s custody weekend and she should be the only one at the residence, the report stated.

The officer noted the child could have wandering into the busy roadway or the lake, which was within feet of his home.

Suarez was arrested on suspicion of abandoning and endangering a child, a second-degree felony punishable by two to 20 years in prison. She remained in the Ector County jail Monday on a $30,000 surety bond.
