Odessa man arrested on multiple warrants

A 23-year-old Odessa man was arrested on multiple felony charges Monday, months after he allegedly reacted badly to a break-up with his 31-year-old girlfriend.

According to Odessa Police Department reports, the alleged victim told police on Feb. 5 that she was outside her residence when she found her former boyfriend, Cahris Bailey Hernandez, there and she convinced him to leave after he caused a disturbance.

However, when she went inside her home she discovered some of her property had been destroyed and she decided to go to the police station to report it, the report stated. When she arrived, she learned Hernandez, with whom she’d broken up with a month earlier, had followed her. She said he assaulted her when she tried to run for the lobby.

The woman and an eyewitness said Hernandez tried to take her keys and phone away, scratching her and causing her to fall, the report stated. The witness stepped in to stop the assault.

The woman also told officers that the day before Hernandez had fought with her over her phone, leaving her with a cut lip and bruised chin, the report stated.

On Feb. 6, the woman called 911 from the 200 block of Ellis Drive to report that Hernandez had used her truck to crash into her parked Chevrolet Camaro, which then struck her mother’s Chevrolet Colorado, the report stated.

She further alleged Hernandez squeezed her hand and hurt her when she went into the truck and grabbed the pickup truck’s keys, the report stated. She said Hernandez then got back into the pickup truck and tried to run her, her mother and her mother’s boyfriend over.

Hernandez was arrested on suspicion on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, evading arrest, continuous violence against the family and duty on striking an unattended vehicle.

He’s being held without bail in the Ector County jail in a 2021 evading arrest with a vehicle case.
